Text to Speech

Your computer can read aloud text that is printed on the screen.   Windows Narrator  is  a  program  that  comes  installed  with  Windows  that  reads  what  is  displayed  on  your  screen;   the contents  of  the  active  window,  menu options, or the text you have typed. To activate Narrator: Press the Windows key on your keyboard. 1. Type "Narrator" and hit Enter. 2. A new window will appear with Narrator options as you begin to hear what is written on the screen. Apple's VoiceOver is a built in screen reader that lets you interact with your Mac, based on spoken descriptions. To start VoiceOver Press Command + F5. Your computer should begin to speak the content of your screen. There are many text to speech add-ons for your web browser. Firefox :  Many add-ons are available for  text to speech . Chrome :  A wide variety of extensions for  browser accessibility . Safari :  For Mac OS only, select text and then right click and select Speech > Start Speaking. Opera :  has discontinued text-to-speech. Internet Explorer :  relies on Windows Narrator for text to speech. There   are   numerous   screen   readers   available   to   purchase   or   for   free   download.   Wikipedia's list of screen readers  can help  you   select   an  appropriate one for you and your operating system.
