1921
Dovercourts roots trace back to 1921 when Bob
Edwards, the great-grandfather of the present owner
formed a small plating company called Dovercourt
Electro-Plating. Dovercourt began as a modest
business with a staff of 4 in a 1,200 square foot
facility located on Dovercourt Road in Toronto,
Ontario.
During the following years the company expanded
many times eventually moving into larger facilities
where chrome plating was introduced.
1960
Dovercourt continued to expand and eventually
moved in a 20,500 foot facility employing 80 people
on a full-time basis. Nickel, zinc, chrome, brass and
gold plating were processed on site. The majority of
the work involved the plating of parts for appliances
and wire work.
It was during this period of time that the automotive
industry was emerging and Dovercourt began
plating parts for the auto sector.
1970 - 1980
During the seventies ownership passed on to grandsons Robert and David Edwards and multiple changes. were made
within the industry. A decision was made to specialize in high-volume nickel chrome plating resulting in a major retrofit to
the equipment to accomode fully automated lines for high volume production.
The 1980’s brought our second plant Autotek Electroplating into reality to handle the increase in the volume of the
automotive work.
1990 - 2000
Business continued to grow and high environmental standards in the industry became a realty. In 1995 our 3rd facility
Athena Protective Coatings opened and our 4th facility, Olympic Coaters followed soon after in 1998.
2010 - Today
The 21st millennum brought many challenges not only to our group of companies but also to the industry as a whole. To
assure the market of continued exceptional service, the production operations of Athena and Dovercourt were
consolidated into Autotek and Olympic.
Today, our organization consists of 6 fully automated plating machines with a workforce of approximately 130 dedicated
workers and is currently owned and managed by Robert P. Edwards, the forth generation.
